We just received this update on the Herndon Skatepark:

Construction preparations for the skate park at Trailside Park have begun!

“Moving dirt” and construction should begin in earnest this week. The skate park should be done in late summer or early fall, obviously affected by the weather. This fall, you can look forward to an official grand opening celebration. Also, look for clinics or classes in the fall Herndon Parks and Recreation Department program and events guide (aka the class brochure).

Virginia Paving has done a great deal of pro bono work in Trailside Park. Virginia Paving helped with some tree removal after the big storms, spruced up picnic tables, grills and the parking lot, and tackled moving the sand volleyball court which was part of the skate park project. Trailside Park is open as usual during construction.

The Boy Scouts will be doing planting associated with the skate park particularly the rain garden, and would love more volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please let me know. This will probably take place in August or September.
